If he's talking about the Black Bloc "anarchists," he doesn't read nearly widely enough. They've been excoriated in print several times. If he's talking about the drones in Yemen (I'd guess he isn't) or enforcement of deportation orders? He's definitely not informed. If he's thinking of Game of Thrones, that's fiction.
Perhaps he is maundering (as much as one can maunder in Twitter) about Lincoln Steffens having seen the future after a visit to Soviet Russia in the '30s, although I suspect that was before Mr. Stephens' time. And I think Mr. Steffens retracted the statment later. I haven't noticed that the antifa, anti-Nazi, anti "supremacist" people are defending Stalinism (or Putin) or Cuba or Venezuela. Individuals can think what they want.
But, y'know, Nazism and white "supremacy," remain objectively evil no damn matter what.
Am I missing something? When I search in various ways for accounts of "leftwing violence at Charlottesville," all I see are rightwing sites like, Brietbart & the DailyCaller, claiming there was all of this leftwing violence.
In all seriousness, can someone please point out a reputable source that lists actual incidents of leftwing violence in Charlottesville. That is: violence STARTED by the left, not just in response to being attacked by the Nazi's first.
I'm willing to stand corrected, as there was a White Supremacist rally last summer (2016) in Sacramento that had been legitmately applied for, and it was interrupted by some sort of AntiFa group, who apparently made the first knife stabs:

I know someone who was on active duty with the cops, and I guess the melee was pretty intense and frightening. It does appear as if some purportedly "leftwing" AntiFa group initiated the violence in that case.
I am still questioning (in various places) who these AntiFa groups are - I mean: who, exactly, is in them and leading them? Because often it seems like the local groups - such as local Black Lives Matter groups - don't know who these AntiFa (the black clad ones) actually ARE or where they come from.
This was also the case, as I'm given to understand, when there was some (but not as much as depicted in the lying M$M) AntiFa violence protesting the pedophile Milo Y's "talks" at UC Davis and UC Berkeley earlier this year.
I have no idea, but I get the skeevy feeling (I could well be wrong) that at least some of these AntiFa types are what used to be called "outside agitators" waaay back in the Viet Nam War protest days, and it has been proven that COINTELPRO was, as they say, "a thing," and yes, Virginia, some of these outside agitators were sent in to discredit those doing the protests.
That's not say that there were NO incidents of leftwing violence bc we do know what the Weathermen did.
Circling back: in all seriousness, does anyone KNOW any reputable source that describes actual leftwing violence - initiated by the left, not in response to someone attacking them - at Charlottesville?

The French should have just let the Nazis into their country without protest because if you just ignore Nazis and don't listen to them, then they'll just go away quietly because no one is paying attention to them.
In a related matter, how about someone naming the good people on the nazi side. Was there a bloc of historians marching with yhe klan? Or maybe some church groups shoulder to shoulder with the volks chanting Jewish hate.
